FULL ASSURANCE & EXALTATION (JUDE 24-25)

We come to the end of Jude, and it is a grand ending. It’s generally understood that when dealing with hard things, if you can, you should end at a high point—a point of hope. Well, Jude makes a final turn to the highest point of all—the greatest hope of all—on which to end his letter. We finish this look at our fight for the faith “fixing our eyes on [Him who is] the author and perfecter of faith.” (Heb. 12:2) In doing so, we will see from Him something far beyond mere optimism and wishful thinking. And we will see in Him all that is to be eternally attributed to Him.

HAVE MERCY (JUDE 22-23)

Jude turns us from waiting to receive mercy to being willing to give mercy. In the fog and fatigue of battle, it’s easy to lose sight of one’s own humanity and especially an opponent’s humanity. Caught up in the fight, it’s easy to forget mercy. But even while contending for the faith, as we have mercy from God, we are to have mercy on others.

KEEP YOURSELVES (JUDE 17-21)

Spiritual self-care is vital to us in contending for the faith. We cannot win this battle if we are going in weak. We will lose this fight if we are fractured, frayed, faltering, and unfocused. We must get our minds right and keep ourselves right.

THESE MEN EXPOSED, PART 4 (JUDE 14-16)

Progressive. Visionary. Cutting-edge. Dynamic. Open-minded. Inclusive. Accepting. Tolerant. Even loving and righteous. The enemies of Christ and His righteousness like to use catchy terms like these for themselves, putting a shine on themselves, as they dream up new ways to commit the same old sins. But the day is coming when the charade will be over, and their charade certainly is not working with God. So, with that in mind, we will look at Jude finish stripping the shine off these men in his exposure of them—the exposure of their final judgment and the exposure of their motives and methods.

THESE MEN EXPOSED, PART 3 (JUDE 12-13)

These men are enemies among us. And we must ask, how do these men creep in unnoticed—how do they infiltrate so effectively? The answer is what they appear to be. They are coming to us appearing to be of us and good for us. And Jude shatters their illusion, turning to nature for some vivid imagery in his exposure of them.

THESE MEN EXPOSED, PART 2 (JUDE 11)

There is much to unpack in verse 11 alone. Jude’s next step in his expose’ is to tie these men to an ancestry of iniquity. To set the tone, Jude calls out, “Woe to them!” —Under their impending judgment. Disaster is coming to them. Why? Jude identifies them with three figureheads of sin in history for us to better understand what drives them and has destroyed them.

THESE MEN EXPOSED, PART 1 (JUDE 8-10)

As these men work to undermine the faith, we are to engage them in spiritual battle, therefore, we need to see them clearly. Effective battle requires clear sight of the enemy. So, Jude exposes them. He shines the spotlight of truth on them without any conformity to political correctness or the so-called “love” that tolerates everything and calls out nothing except biblical standards.

A REMINDER OF JUDGMENT (JUDE 5-7)

3/13/2022

Picture
Jude wanted to bring into focus how God dealt with sin in the past, as that truth relates to how we are to contend for the faith in the present, against those that would poison us with perversion from the inside out. And Jude’s reminder is of judgment on three groups: unbelievers, angels, and the immoral.

THE CONFLICT IN OUR MIDST (JUDE 3-4)

Every good soldier wants to make sure that conflict is out on a battlefield, not in close to home and certainly not in the ranks. It is a whole other level of danger to be outmaneuvered by the enemy so that the home turf or the ranks of fellow soldiers are compromised from within. In the next two verses, Jude puts out a call very much related to that concern, and we carefully look at them under these two points: the necessary exhortation and the creeping infiltration.

OPENING NECESSITIES (JUDE 1 & 2)

This message is entitled “Opening Necessities” as opposed to opening niceties. The salutations in Scripture are God-breathed for anchoring the letters to the call and will of God. So, we start our study of Jude with looking carefully at what is necessary in his opening words: necessary identity and necessary blessing.
